The Devil's Own Weakness Is Shown in Attacks on Church

Threatening a priest or Bishop never helps your cause and is a sign that you are not a true Catholic and you have turned your back on Jesus Himself.

Those who make threats and publish false testimony against our Church leadership do not deserve anything but our prayers to help in their conversion.

"Bring Me My Children. Bring Me ALL of My Children!"

Roman Catholic Bishop Richard Malone says church officials obtained a police order and threatened church sanctions against an outspoken critic because he felt the man's words and actions were "threatening to me personally and harmful to my ministry."Malone, leader of Maine's 215,000 Roman Catholics, issued a statement late Tuesday afternoon on the Diocese of Portland's Web site following news accounts of his actions against Paul Kendrick.
In his statement, Malone said he turned the other cheek for nearly five years as the Freeport man flooded the diocese office with e-mails and held vigils outside his residence, the chancery and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, where Malone often celebrates Mass.

But the final straw, Malone wrote, came on Dec. 16, when he needed a police escort to enter a building as Kendrick and others waited outside. A day later, Malone said he received a letter in which Kendrick threatened to become a distraction at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.

"I decided that the line had been crossed beyond legitimate criticism of the church to what felt threatening to me personally and harmful to my ministry as your bishop. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but this kind of harassment is another matter altogether," Malone wrote.

Merry Christmas From The Friday Night Rosary Group!

With wintry weather surrounding us again, driving the country roads can be very perilous at times. As we do every year at this time, we will be suspending the meeting of the Friday Night Rosary in the chapel at Sylvan Springs through the Lenten Season.

Please join us again beginning the Friday after Easter in 2009. Keep praying with us from home or your parish and stay informed by checking back here often.

A Roll Call of Bishops' Commentary on OLA

Bishop John D'Arcy of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese (Rome City is located in the center of this diocese) says he accepts the ruling that nothing in Sr. Mary Ephrem's writings contradicts Catholic teaching.

Bishop David L Ricken says "Our Lady of America's message about purity, chastity and growing in one's faith through devotion to Mary and the body and blood of Christ especially resonated with young people."

Bishop Richard J Garcia of Monterey California says "Our Lady of Guadalupe is important for all the Americas but to have Our Lady of America and the Immaculate Conception as a special patroness for our nation will bring about the peace we so yearn for (and) a resolution to many social issues," including euthanasia and abortion. The Blessed Mother is so important to all of us Roman Catholics, and Christian people in particular, and, specifically for our country, for peace within our land; and the intercession of our Blessed Mother is so important on many issues that affect us morally and socially. Marian devotions, including those to Our Lady of America, also can lead the faithful to really listen to Christ's message that all must be "bearers of the Gospel and bring about Christ's love," he said.

Archbishop Raymond Burke, formerly of St.Louis and now serving as Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and President of the Commission for Advocates, issued an opinion letter on Our Lady of America and shared it with his fellow bishops in 2007.

"What can be concluded canonically is that the devotion was both approved by Archbishop Leibold and, what is more, was actively promoted by him. In addition, over the years, other Bishops have approved the devotion and have participated in public devotion to the Mother of God, under the title of Our Lady of America."

"Although the devotion to Our Lady of America has remained constant over the years, in recent years, the devotion has spread very much and has been embraced by many with special fervor," he wrote.

"Our Lady of America calls the people of our nation to the new evangelization through a renewed dedication to purity in love."

Archbishop Burke also noted a distinguished difference between Our Lady of America and Our Lady of Guadalupe, who is considered "Empress of all the Americas."

The two devotions, he said, are "completely harmonious," however, Our Lady of America is considered the patroness of the United States.

Old News Worth Revisiting

The following Q&A is part of an Inside The Vatican interview with Archbishop Raymond Burke. It was published just before the November elections.

Was the decline in morals as you perceive it, one of the reasons why you approved devotion to Our Lady of America in the archdiocese of St Louis?

The Mother of God, by her apparitions as Our Lady of Guadalupe to Saint Juan Diego, fostered, in a dramatic way, the respect for all human life. Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe brought an end to the cruel practice of human sacrifice, and brought together into one race the Native American and the Europeans who were on the verge of a bloody conflict.

I have been praying fervently, through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, that the citizens of the United States of America will vote, on November 4th, for the safeguarding of the right to life and of the integrity of marriage.

The devotion to Our Lady of America is distinct from the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe who also has the title of Mother of America. Devotion to Our Lady of America was approved many years ago by the late Archbishop Paul Leibold of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Having studied the devotion and noting, in particular, its emphasis on the gift of the divine life of grace in the individual soul, which is reflected, above all, in the practice of the virtue of purity, I encouraged the devotion in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis.

The new enthusiasm for the devotion to Our Lady of America seems providential to me, for it helps the faithful to fortify themselves against the evils of pornography and other violations of pure and selfless love.

Bishop Gives Biden Bailout and Discounts Eucharist?

Joe Biden’s Bishop Expands on Decision Not to Deny Communion Over Abortion
by Steven ErteltLifeNews.com

Dover, DE (LifeNews.com) -- Bishop W. Francis Malooly has expanded on his previous comments that he will not deny communion to incoming Vice-President Joe Biden because of his pro-abortion position. Malooly says he can do more good by not alienating Biden and other pro-abortion Catholic politicians.
"My own conscience tells me I have a better chance of helping someone if I don't alienate" that person, he said during a conference for young Catholics over the weekend.

Bishop Malooly said he was following the lead of most of the other Catholics bishops in the United States who have not revoked the sacrament for pro-abortion elected officials and have instead adopted a more conciliatory approach to changing their hearts and minds on abortion.

According to a report in the Wilmington News-Journal, Bishop Malooly, who was recently installed as the head of the Catholic Church in Delaware and Maryland’s eastern shore, said his dealing with pro-abortion politicians who deviate from pro-life Catholic teachings is nothing new.
He said as the auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Baltimore that he dealt with the contentious communion issues.

Malooly told the newspaper that "I don't know everyone's conscience” and can't make decisions about abortion and communion on a broad basis but must confront people who are out of step with the church one-on-one.
Last month, Malooly said he wouldn't deny Biden communion even though several of his fellow bishops have done so.

"I won't politicize the Eucharist," Malooly said. "I don't want to alienate people. I want to change their hearts and minds."

Malooly said he spoke with Biden in September on the day before his installation as the new bishop and the two agreed to discuss the issue of abortion and Catholic pro-life teachings at a later date.
Biden attends church weekly and has received communion at his hometown church in Delaware.

The Pilgrims Keep Arriving

Here is what a few of our recent pilgrimage visitors have had to say:

From Illinois..."The miracle of the sun is happening all the time now when I visit the Holy Ground in Rome City. We are living in incredible times. May God bless us all in America & all over the World. Lord, give us all the graces we need for these times!
Thank you to Nick, Ruby, Larry, and Irv. "

From Indiana..."What a wonderful day we had yesterday!! Very holy! Michael has talked non stop about it and has told all his siblings that they have to go to Rome City. He has even asked several times if we can take them all back there on Saturday! He even shared that he had a “miracle” because his hand was cold when he touched the statue but became warm when he touched. Regardless if that was real, it is very real to him and for 7, he was deeply touched....Sylvan Springs offers everything that has been in our hearts for a very long time and is completely compatible with the current inspirations and such...While we did not see the miracle of the sun, we did see an absolutely breathtaking display on our way out where the sun looked on fire. It was amazing!"

From Steubenville, Ohio..."Do not worry about the attacks. It means there is more being done to advance the cause. We need to pray for our Bishops to follow Mary's request! It is a beautiful statue. God Bless all you are doing to build the Kingdom of God! "

From Michigan..."My army is growing. Many of my friends have gone to Rome City and every one of them want to return with their families and other friends of theirs. It's too bad it's getting cold, it's hard to wait to come back! I would live there if I could. It gets harder and harder to leave. We are hoping to make one more trip before Christmas.I know that I am on the right side of that line and I am making sure everyone I love is too."

And this account from another woman in Michigan..."I am craving to go back to Rome City. I want to bring JUGS to get more healing water. I have to tell you, yesterday I had a splitting headache all day. When I got home and got dinner done, I went to wash my face, brush my teeth, and get in my jammies and saw my (small) bottle of healing water. It is in my cupboard in my bathroom at room temperature. I put some in my hand, put it all over my forehead and was a little set back. The water was VERY cold on my forehead. I did it again and again. The temp remained very chilled. Wha-la, the pressure was less. I woke up this morning without a headache. AWESOME! AND...I feel much better today (not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually) than yesterday. I just know my heart (and mind) has been changed."

From Jesus, Mary, Joseph Website

THE LAST HOUR

IN SPITE OF THE TIMES IN WHICH YOU ARE NOW LIVING,
CONTINUE TO THANK GOD FOR ALL THAT HE IS GIVING.
YOU WERE CHOSEN, DEAR CHILDREN, FROM AMONG ALL OF THE REST
TO BE PART OF GOD’S REMNANT DURING THIS TIME OF UNREST.

AS SATAN PREPARES NOW THIS EARTH TO DEVOUR,
GOD’S PREPARING HIS CHOSEN TO SURVIVE THE LAST HOUR.
IN ORDER TO HELP YOUR LOVED ONES TO SAVE,
YOU CANNOT COMPROMISE NOW AND BECOME SATAN’S SLAVE.

YOUR CROSSES ARE HEAVY AND THEIR WEIGHT MAY INCREASE,
BUT IN SPITE OF THE HARDSHIPS, YOUR PRAYERS CANNOT CEASE.
DO NOT WAIT, MY DEAR CHILDREN, UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE
FOR GOD’S SWORD WILL SOON THE CHAFF FROM THE WHEAT SEPARATE.

EACH REFUGE GOD CHOSE IS NOW SET IN PLACE
AS HE PREPARES NOW TO FILL EACH VACANT SPACE.
GOD FOR HIS CHOSEN ALL THEIR NEEDS WILL PROVIDE
WHEN YOU FLEE FROM THE ENEMY IN A SAFE PLACE TO HIDE.

“THY WILL BE DONE”
12-1-2008

(Received during Adoration. During Adoration last week, The Blessed Mother said, "As long as every body prays the rosary as I requested, I will surround them with My rosary and they will be protected from harm.)"
