Oil Exuding From Walls

Another manifestation of strange phenomena at Sylvan Springs has recently been brought to our attention and we present these photos here for your own discernment.

An oily substance has begun to appear on walls in the small devotional chapel and another room in the building. Apparently this has been happening since the end of September 2006, the 50th Anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of America at this very same place.

The housekeeper, who is non-Catholic and did not associate it with anything spiritual, has tried to wipe it away several times and it only returns again. This came to our attention only after a brief visit several weeks ago while touring the facility with this same housekeeper who related her discovery of the running, oily substance on various walls. She said she had tried soap and water as well as vinegar and water but it returned both times. The owners have known about it as well but had not readily associated it with anything spiritual either as they had been looking to eliminate physical factors which could be causing this substance to appear. All they could determine was that this oily substance was coming from 100 year old plaster walls, covered in both latex and enamel paints, that had no plumbing in them which could have possibly contributed to this event.

The substance is not coming from any cracks or fissures in the walls and aside from the obvious streaks, there does not appear to be any other markings associated with this phenomena.

It is not just wet. There is a "slickness" to the fluid. Condensation is not an issue because dehumidifiers in the room do not dry it out.

Is this another manifestation like what has recently been reported in the deceased boy's bedroom in Australia and from other portraits and icons around the globe?

This is amazing. I definitely have to get my group to come for a visit sometime this summer. We have been talking about it but we have not been able to get anything definite put together.

I do hope the local Bishop is following these events and is aware of the many good fruits which are coming from this special place.

Those articles about the other recent wall of oil ... and the local bishop's and priest's reactions.

This Sylvan Springs phenomenon should be reported to and shown to the local bishop and priests - and also present to him these articles with other bishop's response so he won't feel that this is anything new in the Church.

These gifts should not go without thanks.

After all of the other reports of healings and conversions that have been reported on this site and others it should not be the least bit surprising that something as mystical as this should be happening too. I firmly believe this is a place that has been chosen for Our Lord's work in a most refreshing and formative way. We need to support this effort in all ways possible to insure it stays focussed upon the true work it is supposed to do.

I heard from a reliable source in Rome City that a new spring had gushed forth at Sylvan Springs and may even be bigger than the previous spring. I went to see the new water and it is REALLY coming out. This is something to see. Besides the oil on the walls, this is VERY unusual too.

I have been a visitor to this place almost my entire life with the exception of when The Way was in there. There has always just been the one waterfall that was fed by the large spring and now there is this one that I understand was discovered on Good Friday this past week.

What is going on here if it is not the work of God? There are the miraculous healings and spiritual enlightenmnets as well as the lifegiving waters that are apparently flowing even more abundantly than ever before. Mary is preparing this place for something big. I hope the right people are paying attention. I hope this is the year for Our Lady of America to finally be recognized.

This all reminds me of a song from the 60's:

"Something's happening here. What it is ain't exactly clear.....It's time we stopped, children, what's that sound? Everybody look what's goin' on."

This happened on Good Friday? The signs are all around us. I'm convinced. What is it going to take to convince the rest of us?

I wanted to comment that the migraine headaches I had suffered for so many years have not returned since they were taken away this past Saturday during my visit to this marvelous place of Our lady's apparition. I washed in the water and drank it after praying for relief from my symptoms. I was immediately pain free!

My husband is very happy that he drove me over. We met another couple who prayed with us and we are very thankful to them. I think having them there bolstered our own faith and made a big difference. They seemed like really good people and were astonished when I told them of my own miracle.

Thank you Mother Mary and thank you Jesus for this special blessing. This place is quite beautiful and I hope that everyone seeking help for their problems that cannot make it there at least turns to you for help and asks for a blessing as you have given me.

You good people really need to exercise some discernment here. Really now, this could be nothing more than leaky plumbing. Haven't you folks learned anything from the example of the church? Examine...question...discern...don't just swallow everything blindly.

God bless you and protect you from scam artists in sheep's clothing.

To answer the last anonymous comment, this is exactly the same question the owner and housekeeping staff asked when they first discovered these events last September before they began investigations into potential causes. What they, and other investigators, have examined, questioned and discerned is the following:

It could NOT be leaky plumbing because the plumbing is not in or anywhere near this wall and all of the building has been drained since last September.

There is nothing above it except a dry room.

It is on an interior wall, so no leakage from outside.

Dehumidifiers do not have any impact on it.

This and other areas were examined very closely as recently as yesterday with no further determination as to origin.

In short, there does not seem to be any plausible physical explanation as to how this could be happening.

To anonymous-

whats it going to take to ever convince you? I am certain your the same person who hasn't liked anything about OLOA, but here you are again, throwing your two cents in. That's OK because you add a little color every now and then and it just adds to the confirmations and belief by all who read your remarks. Like my dear mother used to say: "Every village needs a disgruntled soul to make the rest of us feel better about being gruntled ourselves." I never knew exactly what she meant, but it seemed to work whenever she said it.

With so many healings and conversions being attested to here, how can you say that this couldn't be happening or that it's a scam? Or, are all of these folks full of bulloney too?

Does somebody have to be a Polish nun claiming a recently deceased Pope cured her of parkinson's in order for you to believe their story? The Church is always ready to move something along whenever it benefits them, but if some of us normal people have something happen, well, we must be full of juicy fruit or something. Burning bushes? Water coming from plain dirt? Three little kids claiming to see a beautiful woman on the 13th of the month? It's all NONSENSE, huh?

Come on, the Holy Spirit is there for all of us, no matter if we are in some out-of-the-way hamlet in Indiana or we're sitting right down in the front row of St. Peter's with the Holy Father saying Mass. This is the most accessible commodity ever known to man. Free delivery and it comes with a lifetime guarantee and free in-home parts and service. It's called FAITH!

Give these folks a little credit for not being a bunch of morons. If this was happening in my building, I'd probably done the same thing and figured it was a clogged pipe or something. But if there wasn't any pipes there, and I cleaned it off and it came back, I'd be looking elsewheres for answers too because my bosses would be wanting answers as to why their walls were a mess. I'd certainly be telling people about it if there wasn't any explanation. These folks waited over half a year. How long you want them to discern?

"Is this another manifestation like what has recently been reported in the deceased boy's bedroom in Australia and from other portraits and icons around the globe?"

No.It isn't. The holy oil that exudes from portraits and icons almost always are accompanied by a fragrance of roses. I don't know of a single instance when this was not the case. No one has mentioned any floral fragrance in connection with this leak in the wall at the Indiana location. Therefore, it isn't the same as the substance that has appeared in Australia nor the oil that exudes from holy icons.

You should have that stuff that's running down the wall in the Indiana place analyzed. It may be toxic. It could be some by-product of the wall-paint.

At April 11, 2007 4:21 PM , Anonymous The Janitor said...

Toxic? By-product of wall paint?

I've been in building maintenance for over 30 years and this is no by-product of wall paint and I doubt very much that anything toxic could ooze out of a 100 year old plaster wall with no pipes in it.

Personally, I did not see any mention in the recent reports of the oil running from the eyes of the Blessed Mother in the picture or on the walls of the family in Australia smelling of roses. If it did, who is to say the family wasn't burning scented candles somewhere in the house?

Maybe this oil has a smell of roses, and if it does, whose opinion are you going to accept on that? I've been in prayer services where others have said they smelled roses and I didn't smell anything. So what? I don't think that is in any way a determining factor in this process.

I was blessed one time with oil from some weeping icon by Bishop Danylak and it didn't smell at all like roses.

This arguement is not valid.

I went through all of the articles on the recent Australian event and there is no mention of any fragrance associated with that event at all.

In light of the overall body of evidence with the Rome City location, I am inclined to consider this to be a credible report. Given the fact that over half a year has passed without anyone going public with this information, I am certain it is being investigated thoroughly and with great respect.

When will Our Blessed Mother finally tire of all of us? Us that don't believe any of this and will not even give ourselves the chance to pray and discern what is happening. And the rest of us who believe but are waiting for others to get it together for everyone.

We are all big talkers and not doers, as far as I am concerned. Has no one yet gotten it that it is all up to All of us to start to pray, believe, share, contact our bishops, help the owners, and get this going ourselves?

I don't know, but If I were the Blessed Mother, I would be tired of all the jabber and expect some action from ALL of us by now.

Let us all pray, believe, contact people and bishops with sharing this, and help these owners out in any way we are able, and maybe OLOA will get enthroned this year and the Springs will be blessed by the Bishop as Holy Ground.

Tired of talk yet? if so than let's use Action!!!

To the anonymous comment re: people not doing anything, I think one of the best ways people can help this facility and themselves is to organize a carload of friends and family and book a few days at this place. If you can't give a donation, at least you can help the effort by being a part of it.

Dear anonymous,

I think your idea of booking an even with us all included is a fantastik idea. Let's start talking about good times and days that are already listed as possibilities for the facility.

I think in May would be great for a May Crowning and highly appropriate? Any other suggestions anyone?

I think making the effort to travel to Rome City, especially in May BEFORE the June Bishop's meeting, is one of the best ways to show support for this great cause. It will not only help you to learn as much as possible first-hand, it will send a strong signal to the Bishops. THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN DO!!

If a steady stream of followers are faithfully keeping vigil at this place, it will definitely be noticed. Then, if they approve the placing of the larger statue in the National Shrine as Our Lady has asked, we can populate that place too.

I like the way you think Adam.

Are we all going to get behind this, or just enjoy the website and let others do the work?

I like the month of May too. I don't know who is responsible for starting something like this, but someone who lives near by needs to try and see if we can get this together and fill a weekend in May and have a crowning too.

It would be great if all of us who read the website and believe could finally all meet each other if distance is not a problem.

Great idea Adam!!

Any takers out there??

The regular Friday Night Rosary will resume this Friday, April 13 at Sylvan Springs beginning at 7:00 pm.

The rosary will be held in the small chapel. Please enter through the East end entrance. All are welcome to attend.

I just wanted to let everyone know how impressed I was to receive a receipt for my small donation so quickly from OLTIV, Inc. I sent a small donation last Friday and my thank you letter with receipt was delivered yesterday. Very prompt.

I wish to donate one hour's pay each week to this cause and I would like to issue a challenge to everyone reading this to do the same. It is a small effort as individuals but it can add up to a lot as a group united for this cause.

Please join me in answering Our Lady's call.

I like Adam's idea too and it sort of ties in with a dream I had this week where I was in a large group of people and we were walking along singing Ave Maria on our way to an outdoor Mass. Maybe this is not too far-fetched?

Adam's idea of showing up on a regular basis will send a strong message to any Church officials looking at this movement. It's easy to stay home and follow the news but it is more rewarding to be out front and making the news.
Our Lady promised that those who helped Her as Our Lady of America would be remembered. I, for one, can use all the help I can get.

This "substance" on the walls has me thinking about a situation we had with an old building some years ago. We had a condensation issue with plaster walls. However, the condensation was throughout the structure and on all the furnishings. It wasn't exclusive to specific areas and only one wall within a room as is the case here.

I'm not saying I know enough to say anything conclusive about this instance, but it does not seem to parallel the way things happened with our building. I think something else is going on here.

If no pipes are in the walls and a dehumidifier does not stop it and it is an interior wall, something outside the normal realm of physical factors, as I would perceive, is probably the culprit here. I find it exteremely curious that the housekeeper has cleaned it off and it came back.

The rosary last night was very nice as usual. It was a nice group that gathered for our first rosary of the season...almost a full chapel. If things continue to grow we will need to begin using the large chapel again. I am certain Larry won't mind.

Please feel free to join us every Friday at 7 pm and bring the family. When the weather is nice, we sometimes do a procession to the hill to pray the rosary. It is so beautiful and open. I hope you can all join us.

We have been keeping this rosary going since July of 2001. When the building has been closed or weather did not permit us to travel, we would always pray the full weekly rosary and prayer to the Immaculate Conception and Divine mercy chaplet from our homes on Fridays at 7 pm. If you cannot attend in person, please join us in spirit from your own home and pray that Our Lady of America will be confirmed and that Sylvan Springs will fulfill its destiny in bringing families to a stronger commitment to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it amazing that some people will want to trash any mention of this being a definite possibility as the one anonymous comment suggested. Things like this don't happen all the time, but as faithful people who believe in the power of the almighty God, we have to allow ourselves the hope that these things can and do happen.

I agree. With everything else that has been going on and has been attested to at this place we should not be surprised that signs and wonders of this calibre should manifest themselves too!

I firmly believe this is and will continue to be a place of wonders and miracles for those who believe. I feel called to visit in a way that is unexplainable. It has not been a pre-occupation, but it has been a persistent thought whenever I am alone in prayer. I feel especially drawn during adoration when all is quiet and I can listen closely to my soul. The Holy Family is very prominent in the OLOA messages like in no other messages ever delivered by Our Lady.

Just today I have had the opportunity to personally examine these walls as well as the rooms above, below, and beside them.

My own conclusion: there does not appear to be ANY POSSIBLE WAY that this "oily substance" can be coming from any outside source and it does not appear that anyone has applied it themselves.

There are absolutely no markings on the ceilings, cracks, or any other imperfections that could allow penetration. The walls of the rooms surrounding these phenomena and the hall way walls do not show any of these same signs. The rooms where this is happening are not even near each other.

The "oily substance" is indeed oily and has a non-descript "organic" taste, not a petroleum taste, but then I only tasted a couple of droplets. It does have a slightly sweet scent.
It does not appear to be "flowing" at present.

When inspecting these oily markings, what struck me most was the way in which the streaks run down the walls. They stay seperate and do not merge as they run down.

Had someone used a dropper to apply the oil at the top of the wall, there would be a slight "bulbous" start to the streak and it would thin as it ran down the wall. The exact opposite is happening here. The bulbous area is at the bottom of the streak.

I understand the substance is being examined and I anxiously await the test results.
