Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of America
"I do not promise to make you happy in this world, but in the next" ... These words spoken by Mary to Bernadette at the third apparition on February 18, 1858 were a prophesy of Bernadette's life. This was the promise in return for Bernadette's total compliance with the will of the heavenly Mother.

The happiness promised to Bernadette was not only intended for life after death. It is a happiness experienced by all those who progress in the way of prayer; who go beyond prayerful words to the discovery of true Prayer. It was this experience that Bernadette came to discover as she knelt before Our Lady. She went beyond the mere recitation of the rosary to savor the deeper experience of a loving communion, "of a friend speaking to a friend."
There is a strong similarity in the promise made to Bernadette by Our Lady of Lourdes and the one made to Sr. Neuzil by Our Lady of America. Bernadette was promised happiness...not in this life but in the next life, the spiritual life. Likewise, Sr. Neuzil was promised greater miracles than those at Lourdes...not so much of the physical kind (this life) but more of the spiritual realm (next life).
The Ninth Apparition is a culminating point of the Lourdes message. The water bubbling up and mixing with the mud from the inner recesses of the Grotto was to take on an unimaginably deep meaning. Much more than a mere purifying water which may sometimes produce miraculous cures, this water is the mystical sign of the water that flowed with the Blood from Christ's side, pierced by the soldier's spear. An enlightening coincidence, since it was at that time that an account of the Passion was being read in the Catholic liturgy. Without knowing, Bernadette had mimed the Passion "for sinners."
But, as Bernadette was discovering the meaning of the Lady's message, only a few scarce people, such as Marie Pailhes, grasped the full gravity of the situation. Moved by the sadness upon Bernadette's face, "She seemed to carry all the sorrow of the world," wrote Pailhes. But as for the majority, they had callously behaved like the many who, on Good Friday, had abandoned Jesus, whom only a few days before they had so admired and loved.
As Bernadette scratched the muddy ground and chewed the bitter grass, her friends and supporters one by one began to abandon their belief in the claimed visions. This was just like Jesus' friends failed to understand that "ours were the sufferings He carried, and ours the sorrows He bore." Yet they had lived with Him and He had tried to teach them this. On the evening before Christ's passion, He had taken a loaf of bread and said, "this is my body given up for sinners." He had taken a cup of wine and said, "this is my blood poured out for all people." Jesus had tried to avoid this, asking three times of the Father to "let this cup pass from me." But He surrendered himself to the Father: "May your will be done." Jesus had a great love and compassion for sinners, and it led Him to severe suffering. He was the innocent lamb, sacrificed for the salvation of the world, taking on Himself all the sins of the world.
For those who cared to watch and listen, true meaning was discovered in Bernadette's crawling in the mud, and the grass that she found "difficult and bitter" to eat. At the ninth apparition, a passion play of sorts was performed by Bernadette. She observed the sadness of Mary, was called to offer sacrifices and penance for sinners, and surrendered herself in a symbolic gesture representing the poverty of sinners. During the course of her life, Bernadette meditated and deepened her understanding of this mystery. Her compassion and prayer for "poor sinners" was to grow ever more profound.

We are the "poor sinners". Our Lady continues to reach out to us, but as Our Lady of America said "Time is growing short". We must change our ways and heed Our Lady's requests. Many will reject these requests and abandon this cause just as they did with Jesus and Bernadette. We must continue to offer sacrifice and penance for sinners...pray for each other...especially those who turn away. Let us learn from Bernadette's example and swallow that which is "difficult and bitter" and always remember that "Thy will be done."

It has now been 70 days since my husband and I started our programs to stay sober and quit smoking. He stopped drinking and I stopped smoking. We had been drinking some spring water from Rome City to help us in our daily effort and began praying the rosary every morning together and sometimes at night when we would get nervous.
We have made it 70 days with the help from Our Lady of America and we both feel great. We keep a picture of Our Lady on our television set and she helps us through our days.
Thank you all for your prayers.
praise God for what He has done and for your efforts.
Dear Harold and Irene,
Congratulations and continued prayers and success for both of you during this time of difficult sacrifice for you both. Most of us kmow how difficult these types of challanges can be. Continued success for you both!!
May Our Lady and Her Son remain with your during your time of abstinence and continued sobriety throughout this time of Holy Lent and also throughout your lifetime.
You are in my prayers and are added to my intentions in my daily rosary for your continued success.
God bless,
t.w.
It has been a while since I've visited this website. Very good articles and comments keep coming.
Thank you for all your hard work and good luck to all of you during this Lenten season.
I had sensed the continuity of Our Lady of Lourdes, Fatima, and Our Lady of America messages from the beginning. It's just that OLOA seems to have more of a pressing urgency associated with it. I will pray for the success of OLOA and for the strengthening of our commitment in this country to do God's work.
I agree that they ALL have a pressing urgency in our spiritual lives; but I also agree that OLOA has perhaps a more pressing time element in our everyday safety of our physical lives.
May we pray and try to live all of Our Lady's requests and be prepared spiritually for what may happen in our lives daily.
God bless!
What's going on with Our Lady of America? No news of any kind from the other site in almost two months. I stopped checking into that site but I still look forward to the articles and comments here.
Way to go Harold and Irene. I'm pulling for you both.
I hear ya'.
I haven't seen anything re: OLOA anywhere since the last homily posting.
SpiritDaily has been quiet with the exception of the photo of the tree from the Rome City location (which was really cool) and maybe another quick reference sometime in between.
I'm frustrated too. I want to DO something besides "pray". The other site just doesn't tell us much. I like Kenneth H.'s comment from another post. What we need is a pep rally of some kind. Who wants to meet at my place? I'll tell the wife to get some extra cheese logs :-)
did I hear somebody say "chheeeez logz'? Count me in.
I agree. This movement needs some energy. Nobody is at the front of this parade and it needs a focal point.
Congratulations to Harold and Irene, may the Lord and Our Lady continue to guide you each day.
Recently I ordered more medals, booklets and prayer cards which have a picture of the new statue on it from the Contempletive Sisters in Fostoria, Ohio.
The booklets are on back order but should be arriving soon. I distribute them to family members and to individuals at my church in hopes of spreading this devotion to as many people as I can reach.
Sister M. Joseph Therese responded to my order with a beautiful letter thanking everyone for their devotion to Our Lady of America and for being a source of God's providence for our apostolate.
Sister's requested in her letter to please pray that America will respond with Purity to the requests of Our Lady of America.
I had also written to my Bishop, he replied for me to write to the Bishop in the Rome City area for more information on OLOA as he didn't have anything available to give me. He stated that he would keep me in his prayers as we march forward to try and raise awareness of Our Lady and her wishes.
So...let's keep praying, especially during this time of Lent for a favorable response.
I see the statue ad is gone. I hope they come up with a better statue next time. These were not good quality.
To J. Stolle-
I wouldn't count on much help from the Chancery in Fort Wayne. I called last year to get more info and they said that the people promoting OLOA were "renegades" and not endorsed by the Diocese. When I questioned them more, they didn't seem to know much of anything about it. I don't think they really investigated it. I was really turned off by them which actually makes me believe in these apparitions even more. If the local Bishop and his people were all in favor of it I would be more suspicious. Since they were dismissive, it makes it more credible to me. I actually knew 10X more than they did.
Good for you J. Stolle. I just print the messages onto paper and pass out stapled copies...never a backorder and I inform people of the websites on the same information. I usually take three sets with me to Sunday Mass and leave them at the back table. I print "Please Take Me Home" at the top and they are almost always gone after Mass. Our pastor is Okay with it, so I keep it up. I keep him informed of the progress when I go to confession each month. He was not impressed at first but he seems to be coming around. He noted the same thing as a couple of previous comments said about lack of continued new information on the official website. He has great respect for Archbishop Burke but he has not seen any comment from him directly as of yet. That would be helpful.
The homilies are nice. He says he checks into this website once or twice per week. He enjoys the private stories of salvation and renewal through the intercession of Our Lady. So do I.
P.S. Keep it up Harold and Irene!
Our priest was not impressed at first either when I gave him the info on OLOA. Then he told me last month that he had been reading more on the internet from this site and the homilies on the other site and he was beginning to have stronger attraction to what it is Our Lady's messages are asking of us these days. It just takes time and persistence.
Gloria
Keep it up everybody and just stay positive.
