Early Facility History

In 1901, Fr. John F. Noll (later Archbishop Noll), was having a conversation with Dr. Geiermann at the fledgling Kneipp Sanitarium in Rome City, IN.
Dr. Geiermann had expressed frustrations with his situation to the young priest who had been his friend and confidant since 1895 when they met while planning this healing facility. Dr. Geiermann felt the healing center needed to be enlarged in order to be able to attract more patients and it needed more staff who were trained in the Kneipp method of healing.

Enter Mother Emma from the Sisters of The Precious Blood. The sisters had been looking for an opportunity such as the one presented in Rome City. Due to their heightened interest in all things Kneipp and their budding relationship with the young Fr. Noll, the stage seemed conveniently set for the sisters to expand the efforts of Dr. Geiermann. And, so they did.

At the end of 1901, Mother Emma, with the guidance of Fr. Noll and the support of her Mother House, purchased the property and facility from Dr. Geiermann and started out on a journey that would culminate in the construction of over 180,000 square feet of suitable living and working space along with the barns and farm development necessary to sustain a small army throughout the year.

Throughout the course of this development, 3 different churches would be constructed to service the needs of the ever-growing population of visitors and local parishioners. The last church built was the 400+ seat Our Lady Mother of Mercy Chapel which was completed in 1915. This was the chapel where Our Lady of America first appeared to Sr. Neuzil in 1956.

Fr. John F. Noll served, along with Fr. J.C. Keller of Kendallville, as the first of the spiritual directors and chaplains of this facility. Fr. Noll served as the personal spiritual director of Mother Emma and continued in his advisory capacity with Mother Emma throughout the huge construction and development process.

This is very interesting. I had seen the bust of Archbishop Noll at The National Shrine in Washington and I was aware of his role in completing the Basilica there, but I was unaware of any role he had played in Our Lady of America until reading the articles on this web blog. It is put together very well and it makes so much sense as to how everything is connected.

Question: Have there been any documented healings or conversions attributed to Our Lady of America, Archbishop Noll or Sr. Neuzil?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered already, but I would appreciate it if anyone could answer this. I would not be the least bit surprised if there had been healings attributed to any of these figures.

If you go down through the previous comments on past postings, you will find a lot of comments from people who say they have been helped by virtue of their prayers to Our Lady of America, the water from Rome City, and various combinations of things attributed to Our Lady of America, the water, and the chapel that still exists on the property.

BTW: didn't I read that Our Lady of America wanted a Church named in Her honor also? What is the possibility of naming this chapel in honor of Our Lady of America? It makes the most sense because this is where it all started and it is already built. Would the owners be receptive to this idea? It looks absolutely beautiful and would be awesome if the pews were brought back and it was restored to 1950's glory.

Dear My Mother's Little Child,

I don't believe it was a church Our lady of America wanted named after her, but she wanted an image of Her as Our Lady of America to be taken in pious procession into a place of honor, to remain, in the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

She asked to be known also as the Patroness of The United States of America.

Dear Our Mother's Little Child,

Perhaps there is some confusion due to the Basilica in Washington having not been as yet completed in the times of the messages where Our Lady of America urged its completion so that she could have her image place there as OLOA.

I could not find any references to people claiming healing interventions by Archbishop Noll or Sr. Neuzil anywhere on the internet. There have been several references from people in Rome City and Indianapolis who claimed Our Lady of America as an intercessor.

I would think AB Noll would be a significant source of help these days. He had his hands in everything else and his own family background was healing.

Good thught Karen. I thought I had read where not Sr. Neuzil, but Archbishop Noll was involved in healings of sorts there, but I could be wrong.

Can someone who knows the history better than I help us out here??
