A Quick Recap of the OLOA Apparitions in Rome City, IN

Just outside of the small lake community of Rome City, Indiana, rises a picturesque campus facility built by the Sisters of The Precious Blood in the early 1900’s as a sanitarium. It was here that they practiced a form of medicine called “The Water Cure” based upon the teachings of Msgr. Sebastian Kneipp, a German priest, who had developed a large following in the late 19th century for his methods of using spring water and herbal compounds to aid in the treatment of a variety of maladies. Kneipp Springs, as this facility was named, was typically booked to its capacity during the summer months with visitors seeking the calm and restful spa-like treatments in a devoutly Roman Catholic setting. Holy Mass was said by a cadre’ of visiting priests throughout the day in its spacious church and solemn processions were held each week around the magnificently stone-carved stations of the cross and grotto areas that encircled what is commonly referred to by visitors as “Holy Family Hill”.

It was here that the only United States apparitions of the Virgin Mary to be granted any form of Episcopal approval began on September 25, 1956 when a young nun, Sr. Mildred Neuzil, was visited by the Virgin Mary, dressed as Our Lady of Lourdes, while she was praying in the chapel at Kneipp Springs. In her book of messages that were approved by Archbishop Paul F. Leibold, she wrote that "Our Lady promised greater miracles than those granted at Lourdes and Fatima would be granted here in America, the United States in particular, if we would do as she desires." She asked that a statue be built and placed in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. to honor her as "Our Lady of America, The Immaculate Virgin". She promised that if her instructions were heeded Our Lord would provide all the grace necessary for our country to return to purity of heart, and avoid the justice that mankind is bringing down upon himself.

During the ensuing weeks, Sr. Neuzil was visited again by The Virgin, these times appearing as “Our Lady of America” with repeated urgings to honor her with a special devotion to her Son, Jesus with “the purity of their souls”.

These apparitions are the only ones in the United States to have reached the second level of confirmation by the Catholic Church. The first level occurred in 1961 when Bishop Leibold approved a medal to be struck commemorating the events and the second was in 1963 when he gave his imprimatur to the prayer 'To the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the United States'. The third and final confirmation may be happening very soon in one of two ways: it can be approved by Pope Benedict XVI, or it can be approved by a vote of American Bishops.

Although there is growing belief and consensus among American Bishops that confirmation will happen someday, some American Catholics feel a greater sense of urgency to finalize the confirmation as quickly as possible. These people feel that America may be running out of time and that, as a nation, we could be at the threshold of a major catastrophic event that may forever change the way we live our lives. If they are correct, it will present this country with the greatest spiritual emergency it has ever experienced. Priests may become prisoners of the confessionals.

I discern that the request by the so-called lady of America, to have her image placed in the National Shrine, is completely out of character for Our Blessed Mother. Such a request suggests a pettiness and conceit that is not in keeping with her humility and grace. For it is exceedingly vain to request that another statue of herself be added to all of the images of her that are already honored in that place. Can anyone really believe that the Queen of Heaven would behave in such a self-centered manner? The better we know the holy character of our Blessed Mother the clearer it is to discern when anything is falsely attributed to her.

Can anyone really believe that if a statue of the Blessed Virgin as Our Lady of Lourdes were honored in any church or shrine, that she would insist on having yet another image of herself as Our Lady of Fatima, or as Our Lady of Guadelupe added to it? Can anyone who loves and reveres our Blessed Mother ever attribute such pettiness to her? It is completely out of character for one so highly exalted by God, and yet so humble, to make such a vain demand. Whether she be honored as Our Lady of Fatima, or as Our Lady of La Sallete, it is equally honoring our Blessed Mother, for they are true representations of her. To venerate Our Lady through any one, or any number, of the statues of true apparitions of Our Lady is to venerate her through all of them. To place anyone one of the true icons of the Blessed Virgin in a shrine, is like placing all of them there, because they all represent her.

So, that silly request by the so-called lady of America is not in keeping with the grace and humility of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Such vanity and pettiness has no place in our Blessed Mother. Besides, whenever she desired any chapel or church to be built in a particular location, the Blessed Virgin always appeared there. It is also out of character for the Blessed Virgin to appear in one place, then request an image of herself someplace else. Is the character of Our Lady so difficult for you to discern that you cannot detect a phoney when you see one? It is more in keeping with the character our Blessed Mother that, if she really wanted a statue of herself in the National Shrine, she would have appeared there. After all, she can, and has, appeared all over the world. She could just as easily have appeared in Washington D.C. So, it is a false request, by a false claim of apparitions, that a statue of the so-called lady America be placed in the National Shrine. Our Lady is already enshrined there and all over the rest of the world!

God bless you, and make His Light to shine upon you all!

Good grief, Not you again!!!!

Can you not find anything better to do than to continue to rehash the same thing over and over again about Our Lady of America?? You have made your point, and personally this is my first time in commenting and I am tiring of your comments. If what you say is true, than you only need to say it once and people will take notice and discern for themselves. That is also how God works. You don't need to keep repeating it over and over and over!!

Blessings!!

Sylvan Springs and Our Lady of America are special graces for the entire world and no one should put their own personal opinion above the events that are happening there. The fruits are amazing...real conversions.

I'm sure you will all know who this is going out to. I do not know how someone can be so negative about this. What right do you have to say the things you do? If people are feeling closer to there faith by being part of this then so be it. If it was the devils work (which I think you have stated or you believe) who started this almost 100 years ago at this place, then what does he have to gain by bringing Catholics and whoever together? You know the problem with you is maybe you didn't go to a Catholic Grammar school like I did in the 1960's. If you did I guarantee you, You would have been spending most of you lunch periods hanging by your belt loops from the coat hooks in the back closet. Our Nun’s used to get some good laughs from it. After I got whacked for it of course. You seem to be an authority on everything but with all of your knowledge; it seems you have forgotten your first name. The people that express there stories and ideas on this blog are not the people you should be angry with in this world. I believe these are all good people on here just as you are but you need to lighten up.

"Whether she be honored as Our Lady of Fatima, or as Our Lady of La Sallete, it is equally honoring our Blessed Mother, for they are true representations of her."

Glad to see, doubting Anonymous, that you are coming along, with our help, and no longer are insisting on just what particular dress our Lady should choose, as your new inclusion of Our Lady of La Salette in your favorable list attests to. Good for you!

Now, back to logic 101! You do know that some images of our Lady's apparitions moved around quite a bit (even from one country to another) before they finally came to rest at one place, not specified, but one that turned out to already be a chapel dedicated to Her and now with a newer, never before seen image - as Our Lady of All Nations. And how do you feel about Her Son's loin cloth being Her sash?? Does that get your approval of proper dress?? Often She does not request a particular spot but leaves it up to the Holy Spirit. In the case of OLOA, have you forgotten that the place our Lady requested was not yet finished at the time of Her request so that it could not be fulfilled at that time? Does that ease your pain? Since She did not appear as our Lady of Los Angeles or of Ohio or Indiana, etc, but as Our Lady of America, the Immaculate Virgin, the only logical and fitting place can be the one representing all American Catholics and in relation to her Immaculate Conception. So, voila!

She just wishes to help American Catholics to more closely relate to Her so they will be inspired to fulfill Her wishes - thus, the need for their very own image. Isn't She the most understanding Mother?! No pettiness or conceit there. Just a loving Mother of America.

"Can anyone really believe that the Queen of Heaven would behave in such a self-centered manner?"

You know, Anonymous, experienced psychologists say that it is common for people to point to imagined characteristics in others that are really in themselves!

"To place anyone one of the true icons of the Blessed Virgin in a shrine, is like placing all of them there, because they all represent her."

The Basilica in Washington thanks you for your endorsement of their many and varied images of Our Lady! And Our Lady's humility doesn't seem to mind either since more varied cultures of people can more closely relate to their Mother. And, hopefully, the same will be permitted for Her American children too!

In some ways, doubting Anonymous, you are even adding to the authenticity of these appearances. Most approved ones had their skeptics and nemeses! Thank you for contributing!
