The "Immaculate" Connection Part II

John Francis Noll (from Kneipp Springs History Jan. 7) was born Jan. 25, 1875, in Fort Wayne, one of 19 children. He was baptized at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and attended grade school in the building next door. He entered the preparatory seminary at St. Lawrence College, Mount Calvary, Wis. at the tender age of 13, and went on to Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati for his theology and philosophy studies.

The diocese had a great need for priests at this time, and his mentor, cathedral rector Fr. Joseph Brammer, was gravely ill and worried that he would not live to see the first boy from his parish ordained. Consequently, John Noll was ordained at the cathedral at the age of 23 on June 4, 1898 shortly before the passing of Fr. Brammer

John Noll as a seminarian

Within a year, Father Noll was named pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Ligonier, IN at age 24 (a few miles from Rome City). His parish was 30 square miles, which he covered on foot or horseback. He would occasionally make it by the newly established Kneipp Healing Center to visit with Dr. Geiermann and discuss the progress and relative success of this particular venture.

Fr. Noll was moved about the diocese in 1906 to the community of Besancon approximately 30 miles outside Fort Wayne. It was here that he percolated the idea for a parish newspaper whose aim was to spread Catholic doctrine and catechism to the members of his parish who he felt were lacking in these elements. Later on, convinced of this medium’s success and his desire to repel the influence of dispassionate newspapers like The Menace, a periodical devoted to propaganda against the Catholic Church, Fr. Noll started the first National Weekly Catholic Newspaper and called it “Our Sunday Visitor”. It was not long before Our Sunday Visitor Inc. would become one of the world’s largest Catholic publishers.

At the age of 46, the title of monsignor was conferred on Father Noll in 1921. He was named the fifth bishop of Fort Wayne in 1925, after the death of Bishop Herman Joseph Alerding (also a long-time advocate of Kneipp Springs, but he will be discussed in the coming months).

Bishop Noll

Bishop Noll immediately became an influential leader among U.S. prelates. He was named secretary of the fledgling National Catholic Welfare Conference (now the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), and was a longtime member of that body's administrative committee. In his role with the bishops' conference, Bishop Noll demonstrated remarkable foresight about the coming information age, helping to launch Catholic News Service and the "Catholic Hour" on NBC radio. He would have been a big proponent of the internet and would undoubtedly have used it to great advantage in his work.

During the summer months and vacation get-aways, Bishop Noll would often retreat 35 miles north of Fort Wayne to his lake cottage on Bishop’s Island in the middle of Sylvan Lake which was directly across the road from Kneipp Springs. He would say Mass in the beautiful Our Lady Mother of Mercy Chapel and sometimes seek the benefit of the therapeutic treatments offered at the facility. It became a time and place of recreation and relaxation in his otherwise hectic work schedule.

In the 50 years since the alleged apparitions to Sister Neuzil occurred, the Church has never found the case worthy of indepth examination as they did regarding the genuine apparitions at Lourdes and Fatima. There is now even a special commission appointed to examine the apparitions presently occurring in Medjugorje, which I am certain will eventually find that the appearances of the Blessed Virgin Mary at that site are authentic. Certainly, the case of the so-called lady of America must have been brought to the Church's attention in the 50 years since it allegedly began, and yet, it has never been taken seriously enough to appoint a commission to examine the claims. I don't think, in all of that half-century, that any Pope has even mentioned the alleged apparitions in Indiana. This says much about the lack of merit to the claims. In a way, the non-inspection by a Church appointed commission has been a lucky break for those trying to sell the so-called lady of America, because if the claims had ever been closely investigated they would have been found to be false and not worthy of attendance by the faithful.

Good people, consider carefully that the devil can appear as an angel of light to deceive and lead souls astray. The fiend is so bold in his evil and affronts to God that he even intends to appear, at the endtimes, claiming to be God. This is the antichrist that our Lord Jesus Christ warned us will come. Many will be deceived by the counterfeit miracles and signs that the antichrist will perform. So, consider this carefully...if the devil is evil enough to pretend to be God, what's to keep him from pretending to be the Blessed Virgin? What's to keep him from faking miracles and wonders to promote false apparitions such as the one in Indiana?

I pray that our Blessed Mother will reveal to all of you the false character of the alleged apparitions in Indiana. But I also pray that your love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary will grow greatly, toward her, and toward her true messages which have been conveyed to us through her TRUE apparitions. It must fill her heart with great joy when our Blessed Mother sees our devotion to her as she appeared at the genuine holy sites. Please cease your misplaced devotions to the counterfeit, and increase your devotions and prayers to Our Lady of Fatima, and Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Our Lady of La Sallete, for these are true, and fully approved apparitions of our Blessed Mother.

God bless all of you abundantly!

I really get a kick out of reading your continual assertions that the Devil is behind all this. I don't see it making ANY sense at all.

I DON'T BELIEVE that evil would beckon to faithful to gather in prayerful rosaries on an on-going basis.
I DON'T BELIEVE the devil would, through false messages or any other trickery, inspire someone to seek the counsel of a priest and take instructions and be baptized a practicing Catholic.
I DON'T BELIEVE the devil would inspire so many people to tell their personal accounts of spiritual and physical healing and give the credit for their wonderful blessings to Our Laord and Our Lady of America.
I DON'T BELIEVE the devil would set about his plan 50 years before Our Lady of America appeared and falsely heal a young woman at this same place and let the young woman not only give full credit to Our Lady of Lourdes, but also allow her to move another soul to a spiritual conversion at the same time.

If this is the work of evil, then I BELIEVE evil doesn't have much of a future.

This anonymous comment was made by someone truly ignorant of the facts in this case.
To compare Our Lady of America to Medjugorje is to take three steps back. OLOA is so far ahead of Medjugorje in the approval process it has not needed a commission to study it. AB Leibold put much of the debate to rest early on. Nothing like that is even close to happening in Medjugorje. Hopefully it will, but all of the seers will need to be deceased before that bridge can even be approached.

I hope this is confirmed soon so I can go to Washington for the installation of Our Lady of America.

I was saddened when I saw all these other images of Our Lady from places all over the world but nothing from our great country represented. Maybe our Bishops will hear our request and do as Our Lady has requested.

Thank you for this great source of information on this website. I followed the links back to the official site and printed the messages and I will be ordering a medal for my neckchain. The letters from all of the people are inspiring. I wish to travel to this place and maybe linger a while if that is Okay.

Just for the record I want to state that I am a believer and that I have my whole family involved with Our Lady of America.

We found out about this devotion under this name while doing a web search on the Immaculate Conception for our son's homework during the Christmas break.

We are just astonished that a place with so much history is not getting more attention. Maybe, as they say, it has more to do with our Lord's plans than it does ours. By all appearances though it seems Our Lord's plan is unfolding right before us.

We would be wise to view these testimonials and historical events with an open mind and not negate the possibility that God has plans for this country that are beyond even what were revealed to Sr. Neuzil in her messages. I did not find that there were any secret messages as was the case with the Fatima revelations.

Can anyone provide more detail on this? Are there any secret revelations attached to these messages?

From Anonymous' last comment-

"I pray that our Blessed Mother will reveal to all of you the false character of the alleged apparitions in Indiana."

And just how are we supposed to do this?

According to your previous streams of logic, how are we to know that if the Blessed Mother were to reveal that this was the case that it REALLY wasn't the evil one (in disguise of course) trying to keep us away from something that he didn't want to come to fruition?

How do we know YOU couldn't be the evil one? Hmmmmmmmm......

Dear Mr. Larry Young 1-12-07
Our visit to the E. Chapel at Sylvan Springs was delightful. We were allowed to pray and share there for two hours on the 8th of Jan. We are a group of interdenominational prayer warriors who mobilize on Tues. evenings for two hours and pray at various locations in the county. God has opened many doors for us and our visit to Sylvan Springs was no exception. We are made up of persons from several different churches and we pray for blessing, peace, safety, rightousness and God's Presence where ever we go. We share a vision of carrying the gospel outside the church walls. As I was visiting overnight at a friends house in Rome City, I felt a distinct Presence in my room late at night that said to my heart, "I have brought you here for a reason." While in prayer on Mon. morning I felt inspired to drive through Sylvan Springs to see if we could bring our group there to pray. The rest is history as Mr. Larry Young served as God's servant to open the doors for us. Returning to the grounds was a blessing for me since I grew up in this area and I remember when it was Kneipp Springs. I also was part of a group that prayer walked the building and grounds at the time it was for sale by the Nuns. It is our prayer that the sacred grounds will be used of God to pour out His Spirit on all flesh with sign and wonders following. Be blessed in Jesus Name. Rev. Pamela Lash

THESE COMMENTS ARE VERY ACCURATE AND GO TO THE HEART OF OLTIV'S EFFORTS IN THE EVANGELIZATION OF OUR LADY OF AMERICA.

In case you have not received an answer to your question and are still checking this blog: the Blessed Mother considers all of us her children, not just those who are Catholic. Since Catholic means Universal that pretty much means everyone who wants to get to know and love Our Lady and Her Son more.

She came to Sister Mary Ephram to protect and help our country and the world. No one is singled out in her request. All are accepted and loved by Her.

Please keep in touch with this blog and when a retreat or post of a Friday night Rosary is mentioned, or another Pilgrimage, we welcome you and all you would like to bring with you.

We are all God's children, and Our Lady, as her Son, does not single people out by choice of their religion or even lack of choice of a religion.

You are very, very welcome to join all there, and hope you will feel comfortable coming - just as you are.

God bless,

in the name of Our Lady the Immaculate Virgin!

This is good. This proves there are some people who really get it and that Our Lady is really calling to all of us--not just catholics--to get our act together.

Will we listen as a body in unity or will we continue to practice fragmented devotion?

To Curious G-

I have studied these messages and practically everything on websites pertaining to OLOA and I have not found any mention that there could be any "secret" messages or prophecies attached to Sr. Neuzil's experiences akin to those from Fatima.

The closest thing I have read was in 2001 in a SpiritDaily article about the owner of this property and that he experienced something mystical that foretold of an enemy on our soil and a war pitting good against evil like mankind has never seen. But then again, what's the likelihood of something like that ever happening anytime soon?

Apparently, he went on the public record with his statement several months before 9/11. I have not found any further articles on this particular individual to see if he has said anything else. Maybe he has said all he knows---or maybe not. I know it gave me a set of goosebumps that lasted for a while.

You can read the entire article at:

"Certainly, the case of the so-called lady of America must have been brought to the Church's attention in the 50 years since it allegedly began, and yet, it has never been taken seriously enough to appoint a commission to examine the claims."

Hopefully, doubting anonymous, you are not solely hung up on commissions for apparition sites or you may become pretty disillusioned. You do know that there have been commissions that have okayed certain apparitions only to have later commissions for the very same apparition site to rule the very opposite. There have been apparition sites ruled negatively at one time, completely forgotten for years, only to have a later bishop become interested and ruling more positively. In fact, a bishop may rule on his own without any commission. And, as has been witnessed at Medjugorje, there can be sham commissions organized by a prejudiced bishop and not accepted at all by higher authorities. In fact, there can be as many as 4 different commissions organized over time with all kinds of varying results. That's just the haphazard way it goes sometimes with private revelations - even the approved ones. It depends on the bishop. In this case then, if you were honest with your facts, you would finally acknowledge then, that OLOA has been without a lot of the unfortunate disruptions of other apparition sites of history - with the early personal approval of the main bishop with the proper authority. No need to be so afraid of this authenticity then. It very well falls under the proper guidelines of the Church. And, we all know, you do seem to insist that we all follow the Church's lead - which is through Her bishops in these cases ... no??? Once again, your personal convictions in this case, and admonitions to others remain quite baseless.

As the song goes..."Open up your heart and let the sun shine in" - I would suggest substituting "grace" for sun...which you are closing yourself to...and that's too bad and sad.

This all makes so much sense. Now before anybody goes off on me just keep in mind this is just my take on things. I'd hate to have some anonymous comment that "the devil made me say that" or something ;>)

When you add up the historical legacy previous to 1950's with the messages of Our Lady of America, you can only come to one reasonable conclusion: That God has pre-ordained this country to serve as an example for the world and that the national symbol of OLOA will reside in the National Shrine while the place of reflection and re-determination for the faithful (of all willing religions) will be at places such as this in "Rome" City. This couldn't be a bigger set-up by the Holy Spirit. It's makes too much sense. This could never happen in downtown D.C.

I am very excited to see something like this in the states. I do hope this particular location does not suffer the same poor fate of Lourdes or Fatima with all the merchants leading right up to the entrance.

It looks like you Americans have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the rest of the world how to keep a reverent shrine location reverent.

Best of luck with it.

I firmly believe our Lord is trying to bring all His servants together to pray for each other through His dear Mother. I have purchased Our Lady of America booklets and medals. I wear the Our Lady of America medal every day. The books and medals that were purchased have been passed out to my friends as well as to some people that were in need of special prayers for healing. One lady from my church suffers from cancer, she told me recently that the cancer is in remission and that she feels great. She truly feels God's healing touch. Thank you Lord and Blessed Mother. Keep praying folks, prayer is what is needed most for our salvation and that of our fellow men and women.

I noticed the links to the Bishops were removed. Is this a change in strategy and maybe we should not contact the Bishops any more?? If it is, it's too late for me. The official site used to have petitions to pass around at Church and I noticed they are gone too.

Well I think we should still try to inform everyone we can so Please forward information on this website and the official site to everyone you know.
