Archbishop John Noll Memorial Procession at Kneipp Springs

These photos, taken on September 16, 1956, show a solemn procession of faithful guests and visitors to Kneipp Springs leading to the outdoor Adoration altar and Benediction on a warm September day (9 days before the Our Lady of America apparitions began). This procession and Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction was held after a special Holy Mass in the Our Lady Mother of Mercy Chapel in memory of Archbishop John Noll who had passed away just six weeks previous to this event .

Notice the heavy black habits worn by the sisters...can you see Sr. Neuzil in this photo?

Solemn processions were held quite regularly on the grounds for the benefit of the faithful visitors and parishioners. Many times they would lead down to the grotto area and around the magnificent stations of the cross that wrapped around what is now referred to as Holy Family Hill. Typically, there would be a few hundred people attending these services. The guests would hail from all over the country and usually stay for a week or two.

I can just imagine how beautiful and reverent these processions were. It will be wonderful if these processions could be resumed some day.

You certainly don't see things like this anymore in our Churches. I think we have lost something.

You also don't see nuns in habits anymore. I think much could be gained by our nuns and priests setting a better example in the world. I always make it a point when I see a nun or priest in public wearing their habit or collar to thank them for setting such a good example. It seems too many are afraid of sticking out and so they dress casually too often. Like I said, I think we have lost something.

My husband and I started a program 31 days ago. He made a commitment to stay sober and I made a commitment to stop smoking. We heard about Sylvan Springs in Rome City through a friend who told us to go get some water and pray on this every day for help.

Well, we went there and got some water and have been drinking a small glass each day while we work to commit ourselves to our daily task of abstinence.

Harold has not had any real difficulties with his abstinence and I have been fine after the first week (no patch, no suckers, just gum).

We pray a rosary each day and have printed the picture of Our Lady of America and hung it on our refrigerator. We are both feeling great and just wanted to thank Our Lady and let everyone know that we feel that if we can do it then you can do it too.

Those who believe need no further evidence. For those who do not believe, there is nothing you can say to change their mind. For those who are undecided, you must present the truth.

THE POWER OF THE SACRAMENTS MUST NOT BE IGNORED.

Recollection, Holy Communion, & Eucharistic Adoration are very powerful. These people knew it and we must strive to be more like this example in these photos.

I would love to be a part of a celebration like that in these photos.

I showed these pictures to my mother and she recalled being at the "Springs" in Rome City as a girl and being in some of these processions down to the hillside and praying the rosary and stopping for the staions of the cross that wrapped around the base of the hill and the grotto areas. She said they would sing and pray as they walked along and it was just a wonderful experience.

These photos really made her day. We have moved away, but she still talks about the memories of her life as a girl back in Auburn, IN.

We pray for Our Lady of America every day in our house and my children are teaching their teachers about it at their school.

It would be nice to do something like this at a retreat at this place.

I really love Eucharistic Adoration services and it is so hard to get our parish to offer it frequently. It seems too many people ignore the significance of the sacraments and that is reason for concern.

I look forward to visiting sometime this year. Thank you for your generous efforts on behalf of Our Lady.
